You can buy almost everything at this chain store, except for beers and full bentos, for only 99 yen. (99 yen in USD, in AUD, in British Sterling Pound, in Canadian Dollar and in Euro.)
They have breads, rice balls (おにぎり), cup noodles and soups, tofu, udon, yakisoba, soysauce, miso, cheese, milk, yogurt, chocolate, biscuits and every sort of junk food, rice crackers (おせんべい、あられ), frozen edamame, nori seaweed (海苔), sesami, some vegetables and mushrooms, and so on - everything you want to have in your kitchen. And some plates, cups and bowls. Batteries. Pens and notebooks.
The Shop 99 was born after the "100 yen shops" took to the streets all over Japan in the late 1990s. Their "１円でも安く (only 1 yen but it's CHEAPER than the shop next door)" policy has seen a huge success.

Now that the Valentine's Day is over, local food stores are going ひな祭り (hi-na-matsuri) pink fest of capitalism and consumerism - well, it's not "pink" to be precise, it's "the colour of the peach blossoms (桃色)". So please don't 早合点 like "Pink for girls! it's a crazy sexism." (^^) The peach blossoms are seasonal thing as well as an ancient icon rooted in the ancient China.

I didn't buy it because I'm half-vegetarian. (I eat fish at restaurants but not so at home.) Now I'm thinking I should have bought this. Really.
近所のスーパーに行ったら、「あじの開き」が「フランス産」でびっくりした。店内が大変混雑していたので、全体をフレームに収めることができなかったのだけど、普通のあじの開きでした。（私は動物系はほとんど口にしないので買いませんでした。買ってみればよかったのかな。）
