A lot of cherry trees in Tokyo are Somei-yoshino (in Japanese, ソメイヨシノ‰), but there are many different kinds of cherries (sakura).
This very white cherry is Oo-shima-zakura (in Japanese, 大島桜).
The colour of the petals is quite different, and Oo-shima-zakura has larger flowers. The most outstanding difference is, however, if the leaves come out at the same time as the blossoms.
Actually, I like Oo-shima-zakura better than Somei-yoshino and I wanted to re-visit the tree I pictured last year because I didn't do well at that time as below (out of focus because of the strong wind, etc):
... But, sadly enough, the tree was trimmed. Yes, trimmed. Who trimmed that beautiful tree? Ghrrrr.
So, the main picture here is of one of a dozen branches left of the tree.
