On the back of the newspaper, Nelson Mandela says thanks to the RED campaign.
With "A new mobile phone designed by Bono to help tackle Aids in Africa" article and "The mobile phone gives hope to a new generation of African people" article, this issue carries two Motorola ads.

Sir Bob Geldof and the importance of being earnest (on trade).
Ten months after the LiveAid and the Gleneagles Summit, where the British PM highlighted "Africa", the Independent asks what's been achieved.
Of the G8 leaders at the time of Gleneagles, three has already left (Canada, Germany and Italy). One has only three months to go (Japan). One is said to have some months, not years, to go (UK). Three has some years (Russia, France, and USA).
US State Secretary's top-ten choice.
If you are interested in the list, here's the Independent page. "Rice, a big fan, is happy to listen to any of their tunes" says the article of U2, the editor's band.
"THE AFRICA ISSUE" on the top of the page.

I wanted the "?" key on the right, but couldn't find it...
While I was doing a full cleanup of my keyboard after having trouble with some keys, I got bored and took some boring pictures.
As you can see here, on 20 May, we had sunshine after nine successive days (this is unusual: it's not the rainy season yet).
Tokyo, Japan.
The wind was so strong, the cloud moved so fast. The last three pics are continuously shot (2 seconds).
(See notes.)
14 days x umbrella, 4 full days x cloud, 6.5 days x sun... This is our May weather so far. And 1st May was hot and humid, like summer (look at the temperature: my neighbourhood was almost 30 degrees). This is unusual, actually, and there's a report that Weather hits veggie prices / Lack of sunlight blamed for rising price of greens. :(

Initially, she thought it was okay as she was. But somebody claimed she was not recognisable as "a female" because there was no red (a colour that stands for "female"), and that it was not user-friendly. Thus, she was forced to wear a nice red skirt.
In time, she might be painted all red with this felt-tip marker (this pen isn't made for "painting" but "drawing").
A customer toilet sign. Tokyo, Japan.
I feel really sorry for the designer. *sigh*

Sorry it's blurred, but I couldn't fire the flash because it was just outside the toilet. (I didn't want to look very suspicious!)
Translates, "Enjoy the rich colours of Tokyo". (I'm only joking.)
To see the almost-astonishing variety of weeds, view large.
The white ones are cherry petals.
High-contrast.
On the way to the station, there is a school. This wall belongs to it.
This is a reposted picture, again, as I don't want this one to slip away.
Original post, which is about one year ago, is here, and another post here, each with some comments.
thirty-year-old sign of "no nukes declaration." large letters were possibly hand-written, in a very beautiful authentic style.
"No Nukes Declaration" can be seen in a lot of cities around Japan, because Japan is the first country that was nuke-bombed (in 1945).
peace. :-)
